Director Sara Blom is thrilled to be here in New York City for the U.S. premiere of her film, Fair Square: Occupy Amsterdam, at Occupy the Film Festival TODAY (Saturday, September 15) at 6 pm at Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Ave. + 2nd Street.
For those of us mired in local movements, this is a rare opportunity to experience the movement internationally.
Sara was at Occupy Amsterdam, camera in hand, every single day for the life of the encampment. She captures the life and death of the camp with compassion and honesty, and through the detail, artfully reveals a much deeper story about the movement as a whole. Occupy Amsterdam is exquisitely photographed and reaches far beyond conventional documentary format to give us insight into the heart of a nascent and struggling social movement.
Her film was chosen for the Dutch National Film Festival new filmmakers competition in Utrecht, The Netherlands, later this month (yes, “the” national film festival in Holland!) and she is a recipient of the prestigious WWIK artists grant, which allowed her to complete this film over the course of the past year.
Please come see her film TODAY at 6 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm) and enjoy an exclusive Q+A with Director Sara Blom.
